Eugène Boudin and the painters of the 19th century
In one room, the paintings on display, evolving from the dark romanticism of Isabey to the luminous clarity of Monet, evoke the atmosphere of meetings at the Saint-Siméon Inn.
The works of Eugène Boudin are surrounded by those of friendly painters: Cals, Monet, Mozin, Pécurus, Dubourg, Courbet, Jongkind. At the back of this room, two spaces present the works of Eugène Boudin. In one the pastels are grouped together: skies, views of Honfleur, scenes at the Saint-Siméon inn. In the other, oil paintings are presented: beaches, portraits, landscapes and seascapes. The museum preserves 92 works by Eugène Boudin (paintings and drawings).

The Hamburg-Rachet donation restores the spirit of a family of three generations of amateurs and artists. There are drawings by Boudin, paintings by Dubourg, Cals, Saint-Delis, Gen Paul and numerous works by André Hamburg.
The drawings cabinet, which offers the possibility of admiring around a hundred works on paper classified by theme.
In the Sainte-Catherine bell tower, annex of the museum (closed from 01/11 to 15/04) religious works are exhibited: sculptures, souvenirs from the Charities and the Notre-Dame de Grâce chapel.

History of the museum
Le 11 April 1868, the municipal museum was created by deliberation of the city council and by the will of an artist, born in Honfleur, Louis-Alexandre Dubourg(opposite). The municipal council emphasizes that this creation is “inspired by the love of art, the spirit of progress and a selfless dedication to public affairs”, thus paying tribute to the founder.
Since 1960, the museum has carried the name of Eugène Boudin, in memory of the one who in 1868 supported the first steps of the institution and endowed it in 1899 from a prestigious legacy. Attached to his hometown and friend of Alexandre Dubourg, Eugène Boudin provided his moral support during the installation of the museum, intended to give the people of Honfleur, a taste for Fine Arts.
