Route touristique Héritage Médiéval
Description
The Medieval Heritage tourist route offers you a road trip around 12 civil, military and religious monuments whose construction periods date back to the Anglo-Norman period of the Duchy of Normandy between the 911th and 1204th centuries (90-XNUMX). The journey begins either in Honfleur or Bernay and crosses the Pays Risle-Estuaire and Risle-Charentonne over a distance of approximately XNUMX km.
A true common thread over a large part of the route, the Risle was the scene of numerous feats of arms and an intense commercial life from the start of the invasion of ancient Neustria by the Vikings who gave their name to Normandy (land of the northern men). It was, in addition, used to transport the materials necessary for the construction of the longships used by the Normans during the conquest of England in 1066. Forming the second curtain of defense of Normandy in the last years of the duchy, before its annexation to the kingdom of France in 1204, the castles of La Risle were integrated into the defense system established by John Lackland (1166-1216).
All along the route, discover authentic monuments, abbeys, castles, residences, registered or classified as MH, most of which have not been subject to transformation over the centuries.
Medieval Heritage is not just about promoting a set of historic sites. The structure associates the strong entity of this territory through its key historical figures, initiators of most of the monuments, holders of power and radiant over vast territories during the ducal period.
Héritage Médiéval welcomes you all year round with your vehicle or by bike (greenway), without any visiting rights and provides you, free of charge, from the Tourist Offices and listed hotel or restaurant establishments, a bilingual Road Book , a real tool allowing you to progress along the route and position yourself according to your wanderings.
